Veteran coach and accompanist, Lucie Shores has worked professionally in the field from the age of 15. She studied at Moorhead State University and at the Conservatoryof Music in Vienna. As a student she became the first female percussionist to perform in public in Vienna.
Shores graduated from the University of Minnesota at Moorhead and returned to Europe to work with the The First International Course for the Interpretation of Spanish Music, established by professor of voice and internationally known tenor, Ricardo Visus. Shores remained in Europe and was hired by the main house of The Vienna Conservatory of Music where she was employed for six years as a member of the piano and coaching faculty. During that time she coached and for the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz and worked with The American Choral Society of Vienna, among others. She performed in numerous festivals and concert venues, including the Grosse Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna. In addition to studying with coaches Hans Peter Schilly, John Wustman, Shores has worked performed with artists Elio Battaglia, Elizabeth Holleque, Roberta Cunningham, Julie Prohaska, Glenn Winslade, Alfred Sramek, Georg Tichy, Waldemar Kmennt, Ricardo Visus, and the luminous Christa Ludwig.
After returning to the Midwest to raise three sons in 1984, Shores established with Visus, Cantares De España, touring in concert in the United States and Europe under the auspices of the Spanish Embassy, and the Program for Cultural Cooperation Between Spain’s Ministry of Culture and United States’ Universities, among others.
Over the past few years Shores has produced chamber opera such as The Boor in which vocalists Sylvia Olney, Neil Henriksen and Joseph Marty made operatic debuts. In 2005 and 2006 she toured with international operatic sensation, José Luis Sola, ending with a gala performance in the Hall of the Americas in Washington D.C. hosted by the US Ambassador to the Organization of American States. Shores continues to work with programs such as the Semer Vocal Institute in Coesfeld, Germany as well as with singers such as Erin Wall, with whom she recently prepared Strauss'"Daphne" for a Santa Fe debut. She also works and performs with area organizations such as the Fargo Moorhead Opera company and the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis.
